If you are preparing for LSAT, you should have all the information related to the exam. LSAT is conducted at various LSAT locations in the world four times in a year. The test is generally conducted on Saturdays. If you cannot appear for LSAT on a Saturday due to religious reasons, it is possible for you to appear for LSAT exam on Monday. The duration of the LSAT test is approximately 3 hrs plus 30 minutes for the writing test. It consists of five LSAT test sections. Each LSAT test section is of 35 minutes. However, only four of the five LSAT test sections will contribute to your score. These four LSAT test sections include one reading comprehension section, one analytical reasoning section, and two logical reasoning sections. The fifth LSAT test section is not used to calculate your score, but you won't know which section is the test section. We will discuss all the LSAT test sections one by one.
This LSAT test section contains twenty-six to twenty-eight questions. All questions are of multiple-choice. This section consists of four passages drawn from various subject areas like humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and law. Each passage is followed by a set of questions. These questions measure your ability to read and understand examples of lengthy and complex materials similar to those commonly encountered in law schoolwork. Students need to be careful while going through the passages to answer the questions at the end of the passage.
This LSAT test section consists of approximately 24 multiple-choice questions. This test section measures your ability to understand a structure of relationships and to draw logical conclusions about that structure. In the analytical section, you have to solve complex reasoning puzzles.
There are two logical test sections. Each section contains 25 multiple-choice questions. In these questions you have to understand, analyze, criticize, and complete a variety of arguments. The questions measure your abilities to reason logically and critically.
This section is also known as variable section. The scores of this LSAT test section do not add to your LSAT score and it can be any of the four other test sections. This section is also of 35 minutes and contains 25 questions. You will not be able to judge which section is the variable section.
In this section, you are required to write one essay in thirty minutes. This test is administered at the end of the test. You are presented with a topic and asked to argue a position. The writing sample is not scored, but its image is sent to the law schools to demonstrate your writing and thinking skills.
LSAT is scored on a scale of 120 to 180. This score is based on the number of questions that have been answered correctly. There is no negative marking. You also get a percentile score along with the LSAT scaled score.
